3 choices to consider when starting a tutoring business

Depending on your hopes and aspirations how you set off on your road to tutoring could take one of three different routes. Each potential journey will have potholes and beauty spots, but what is important is that you choose the one that will be right for you as an individual.

When you start your tutoring business you have 3 options.

The one best suited to you will depend largely on whether you want to just plod along and earn a little extra cash, or whether you have huge aspirations and you want to change the lives of hundreds, your life, actually you want to change the world and make it a better place!

Before you set off on your journey think about what will be right for you. Options 1 and 2 are quite flexible, option 3 declares you are in it for the long run. It might feel that every blade is double -edged so don't worry, just realise it's a big decision and the right answer will be totally unique to you.

Jump in and get started.

Follow your instincts and your plan and see what happens working it out as you go. If you move your business forward you will inevitably arrive somewhere and hopefully in the process will create the business of your dreams.

Find a mentor or coach

to guide you as you start along the path to building your tutoring business. With their help and guidance, you will inevitably come across far fewer obstacles as they will be able to guide you and safely take you around them. (I started with option 1, then quickly moved to option 2 and me that made a huge difference to the business I had started, and things got moving far more quickly, and efficiently both with time and money).

Franchise

Know the style of tutoring you want to do, know the subjects you want to support, know what you want to earn and what you can afford to spend. Then look to see if there is a tutoring franchise that ticks the boxes that you are aiming for. Be wary if you have to deviate too far from your goals for the franchise to work as you will become disillusioned with it over the long term. But if you think all 3 could be good matches, it’s worth looking at further.

A franchise will save you a lot of money and time as you are working with systems and the support of a business who has already put in the ground work, and although it may appear to be a large upfront investment, calculate how long it will realistically take you to pay it back, because if you can afford it, it will probably be a lot cheaper than the mistakes you will make through trial and error, creating a website, training, etc, etc.

School term is nearly at the end, and this may be the moment you decide to make the change in your life which has been so long in coming. If it is good luck and please if you choose a franchise make sure it’s the right one because although it might save you time and money, it could cost you so much heartbreak and annoyance if your philosophy to supporting learning doesn’t align.
