Email Management: Organise your inbox and manage newsletters

Emails can be overwhelming but with a little organising they can prove very useful.

It's been a little while since the A-Z Blogs so it's time to get back to them.

So far we have had A for Administrative Support, B for Book Launches, C for Cost Effective, and D for Delegation.

This next blog is all about Email Management.

Email Management is broken down into two parts.  The first of these is your inbox, Gmail/Outlook.

First I would take a look at your inbox to get a gauge of the sorts of emails that you're receiving.  I would make a list and then from this list create some smart folders or if you use Outlook, create rules so that certain emails always go into certain folders.

By doing this it helps reduce the overwhelm and makes it easier for you to see the important emails.

For instance, I would set a folder for emails relating to trainings that you have signed up for, and a different folder relating to invoices/receipts for your accounts thus leaving your main inbox for emails from your editor, publisher, press, and cover work meaning you can respond to them promptly, which means you get your books out quicker!

We then discuss the regularity of reviewing your inbox and ensuring that the folders are still working, creating new ones as necessary but also flagging ones for email lists to unsubscribe from.

The second part of Email Management is the creation of your own Email Marketing List.

Helping you get set up on a platform such as Mailerlite which is completely free but does have some awesome paid options that may work for you as you grow - Mailerlite (affiliate, I may earn a small commission from your sign-up)

Mailerlite requires you to have your own domain, which as an author, I highly recommend.  If you need some help on this then I recommend checking out Teal Fox Digital, they helped me with mine!

You're all set up for emails, now you need to create a Freebie or Landing page to get people to sign up to your list.  Once this is done it then needs to be added to your Social Media Marketing strategy, telling people that they can sign up and why they should sign up

The next part is to create a clear plan of how often you will email those who are on your list and what you will be sharing beyond new books being released.

Having a clear strategy for all of your emails will reduce your overwhelm and also make you productive.  With the support of a Virtual Assistant, you can ensure that neither is forgotten.  Provide the content framework for the email list and sit back and watch the magic happen!
