Embrace the winter months, rather than wish them away

How to embrace the winter months and focus on self-care

Many times over the years, I've heard people moaning about the winter season:

It gets dark so early.

It's so cold.

The weather is gloomy.

The mornings are dark.

The days are shorter.

But embracing the winter months may make them seem less harsh. We are all part of nature, and many creatures and plants hibernate during the winter months. So instead of pushing back against the change in season, welcome it in.

Nature is beautiful in the winter, misty mornings can be dramatic yet enticing. Frosty mornings leave grass and leaves with a pretty iced tinge. Crisp, sunny days can be chilly but wrapping up warm for a woodland stroll can be enjoyable and nourishing for the soul.

Make a point of slowing down. It can be a busy time of year which is even more reason to indulge in self-care. Don't feel you should always be on the go. Limit your time on your phone electronic devices. Be aware of your body and the signs of overwhelm. Don't push yourself to do things you don't want to do.

Welcome the cold weather with cosy, comfy blankets. If you have one, light a fire or candles also help a room to feel snug and warm. Lose yourself in a good book, there's nothing better than escapism to free your mind from the daily to-do lists. Enjoy relaxing bubble baths, immersing yourself in the warm water, and enjoy the time to just be still.

Winter is a time of rest and stillness. Of self-care and reflection. A time to just be and do things at a slower pace. So embrace it and enjoy the restorative time.
