This past week, I had the privilege of visiting households involved in our chicken programs, and what I witnessed was nothing short of inspiring.

Rhoda started with just 10 chickens—now she has 34 laying hens and 150 new chicks. Judith, who also began with 10, has grown her flock to 27. Caroline started at 10 and now has 15. These women have embraced the journey of self-sufficiency, facing challenges head-on and finding solutions along the way.

One of the biggest struggles they shared was protecting their chickens from predators. Instead of letting setbacks hold them back, they built small, affordable shelters to keep their flocks safe. Another challenge has been the cost of chicken feed, but they’ve adapted—selling roosters (which bring in higher prices) and reinvesting in hens, ensuring a sustainable cycle for their farms.

The progress they’ve made is incredible. Not only are they now able to support themselves and their families, but they are also growing their own poultry businesses. This is the heart of Hopefull Handbags—empowering individuals to create lasting self-sustainability.

These women are proof that with determination, resilience, and the right support, transformation is possible. And we’re just getting started! 🚀✨
