Why is life so hard?

If there was a God, ‘why can’t He make it better?’

Your life is not an anomaly.

Hard.

Messy.

Confusing.

If there was a God, ‘why can’t He make it better?’

‘Why doesn’t He just perform a miracle and answer my prayer?.’

He can, and He does.

But so often, it doesn’t look how we would have envisaged it.

And quite often, it takes much longer than we would like it to take.

As I read Gen 42-43 today, I was struck by how God often works through just ordinary events.

Often it appears that He is not working and we are running the show.

Often, His plans take time to come to fruition in our lives and our circumstances.

Today I was reminded of a bible character called Joseph who was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, then wrongly accused and put into jail, then estranged from his family for years.

Although this has not specifically happened to me, I have experienced the despair and loneliness in my struggles I am sure Joseph must have felt at times.

The reality is God’s work in our life is not always fast-paced.

It is not often full of dazzling miracles that bring about the humanly impossible in one second.

Often it feels slow, messy, looks hopeless and often it seems God is absent.

This is what I remind myself.

That when my life feels slow in the waiting for God, when it is messy, when it looks hopeless and when it seems that God is absent, I will keep hope and faith alive.

Like Joseph I will trust in God, not my circumstances.

When I look back at the seasons of struggle I have had, especially my recent one, I see this being proved 10x over.

God’s timing is not like ours.
