It is possible to really miss the point.
Like when you are watching a match and are so focussed on a few players but then realise, they didn’t hold the key at all and because you didn’t focus on the right people, you completely missed the point of the match.
And the thing is sometimes not focussing on the right thing can have quite disastrous consequences.
Like completely send you down a completely wrong path.
Or cause you to make unnecessary and unwise choices and decisions.
Or cause you so much pain and anguish.
It’s that last line that really hit home as I read of Joseph’s story in the Bible today.
Joseph a young man whose jealous brothers plotted and executed a plan to get rid of him, whose brothers allowed him to be sold into slavery, who was wrongly accused and thrown into jail, who was forgotten for his many good deeds.
He completely could have carried so much pain and anguish.
He could have made many unnecessary and wise choices.
And we would all have said, it is understandable.
But his words when he met his brothers years later, the brothers who made him estranged from his family and left him for dead said to them
‘…God sent me before you to preserve life…
And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth…
It was not you who sent me, but God…’
I have never been able to read this and not had to have a moment.
How is this possible?
Is he even human?
But he knew, he resolved that the horrendous atrocities of his life, were simply the tip of the iceberg, but that the 95% that could not be seen or at times felt was not atrocities, but was God, unwaveringly executing the most incredible plan that man could ever imagine that will always be for the good of His children and the good of the world.
What Joseph’s experience of life could have been like and what Joseph’s experience of life was is night and day.
Joseph could have legitimately lived a life of deep anguish, bitterness, frustration, we don’t see that. Instead we see peace and submission to God’s purpose and plan for His life.
Mind blown 1000 times over.
