The Write Here, Write Now Community from Karen Sanders Editing has come together to create a short story collection to raise money for Hopefull Handbags UK! Today, we hear from one of our participating authors, Louise Emmerson!

Today, we welcome the awesome Louise Emmerson to the blog to chat about the After The Rain anthology and the reasons she got involved with the fundraiser!

Were there any particular challenges you faced while writing your piece for the anthology?

My biggest challenge was knowing if the content of the story was along the lines that were wanted for the anthology. Although we were given a theme of love/life after heartbreak, I wasn’t sure that the way I had written was what was needed. I was suffering with a slight bout of self-consciousness, being very new to writing!

What do you enjoy most about collaborative projects like this anthology?

I’ve really enjoyed the process. There has always been someone around if I wasn’t sure of something. Being able to read a sample of other people's writing style in a collaborative project is great too.

How do you balance writing for charity projects with your other writing commitments?

Being a very new writer, I found it easier to concentrate solely on the piece for the anthology, I wasn’t drawn to write anything else while writing that specific piece.

Did you collaborate or seek feedback from other authors in the anthology during your writing process?

I spoke with the lovely Clare Bentley after I had finished my piece. Clare was able to offer some very constructive feedback and pointed out some things that should have been obvious – such as the reuse of specific words in close proximity!

What advice would you give to other writers considering contributing to a fundraising anthology?

For new authors especially it’s a great way to get your words out into the wild surrounded by the support of more seasoned authors. So, my advice would be to go for it! Don’t be shy and just try!
