It was October 2020 and I was left homeless after my husband of 25 years decided that he didn’t want our relationship any more after I asked, once again, if I could know more about our finances so we could see if we could afford to move. It wasn’t always that way. I used to deal with all the finances until I was pregnant with our 3rd child at 27, the family business we all worked in went into receivership and we were left without jobs, cars and had to move to a smaller home.
After being blamed for all of this I gave up my financial power and gave it all to him. He chose the house, put it in his name only and from that day forward I wasn’t ‘allowed’ to know what was happening.
Now, if you know me you will know that I’m a fiery so and so and don’t give up easily but at that time I was worn down with an emotional abusive person that literally sucked the life out of me and sometimes it was easier to let it go – that was until it was vital to make the move to somewhere new for me and my family.
Society, my family and my conditioning told me that the traditional way of staying at home and raising our 3 children, while my husband went out to work was the best way to live, I would be financially supported by my husband who was receiving lots of career opportunities within my family business.
Fast forward 25 years and I was left with nothing. He wouldn’t sell the house or buy me out, I couldn’t live in the town we had been in for all that time and I had no savings. I left with £1,000, my business non existent after numerous bouts of illness and no idea what I was going to do.
And I have to admit – it angers me! As a woman we are not supposed to get angry (or so society tells me) – but F that!
