The Cambridge University Press's Online Dictionary defines swearing as
' Rude or offensive language that someone uses, especially when they are angry '

I don't think this is truly right to link someone swearing uniquely with being angry!

What I do link someone swearing with is communicating and expressing an emotion!

Linguist Geoffrey Nunberg says
'Swear words don't describe your feelings, they manifest them ' It is the unique role in expressing emotions that separates swearing from other uses of language including other types of taboo language.

My work involves working with clients and their emotions, so why wouldn't it be appropriate to use swear words as a form of expression?

Have you ever been to a steriotypical looking coach or therapist and they are sat there in business clothes, speaking very 'official '.....did you find you felt comfortable opening up to them, did you find yourself overthinking the language you used with them?

I'm not saying coaches and therapists who present like this are wrong, I've been one of them being forced to have to 'conduct ' myself in appropriate way in line with company policies. Some clients may not feel uncomfortable and are able to express themselves openly and that is brilliant.

I believe it is the context that swearing is used that is important.....my swearing can come out naturally when I'm excited, passionate about something and when calling the truth on something.....and guess what?

My clients and audience have the knowledge to know my use of swearing is not intended to cause offence, what it actually does is show them I'm being 'me ' I'm being authentic, that I understand and can relate to them and them to me!

If I was to overthink everything I said to my clients during interactions I would not come across naturally as me, it would look like I'm trying to come across as someone I'm not and I'm all about authenticity!

Clients work with me for my expertise and knowledge, for the results they can achieve from working with me not for the language i use
