We've all been there before. One negative thought snowballs into a full-blown avalanche of self-doubt and anxiety, and can lead to depression.
Once we're in that dark place, it can be extremely difficult to claw our way out. If you're currently struggling with negativity, know that you are not alone. Here are four tips for overcoming those negative thoughts:
- Be mindful of the media you consume on a daily basis. Are you constantly bombarded with images and stories that make you feel anxious or stressed? If so, it's time to take a break from the news and social media.
- Instead, focus on consuming positive content that makes you feel good. This could be anything from reading an uplifting book, getting out for a walk in nature, listening to relaxing music, or watching a heartwarming movie.
- Take some time to reflect on the things in your life that make you happy. Write down a list of things that bring you joy and refer to it when you're feeling down. It's important to remember that happiness comes from within, no one else can make you happy except for yourself.
- In today's digital age, we are constantly connected to our devices and the internet. While this has its perks, it can also be detrimental to our mental health. Make sure to disconnect from technology regularly and give yourself some time to just be present in the moment.
- When negative thoughts become too overwhelming, it's important to talk to someone who can help put things into perspective. Talk to a friend or family member or schedule an appointment with a therapist or counsellor if needed. Talking openly about the struggles you're facing can help lift a tremendous weight off your shoulders.
