We are human, we like to build things!
This statement says it all for me, part of human nature is this innate drive to create, it’s a shared aspect of common humanity and is seen wherever there are humans!
We like to innovate and shape our world according to our desires and aspirations from ancient civilizations that built the beautiful structures that are still standing today, to the modern-day engineers that are designing our automations and computer systems!
But one area that we seem hesitant to believe that we can wield our imaginations and ingenuity to create, is within our own lives.
Why is that?
We will readily throw ourselves into ambitious projects for others but don’t take the time to build the life we truly desire?
What is holding us back?
Any of these sound familiar?
Fear of failure
Lack of self-belief
External validation and approval
Resource constraints
Comfort zones and habit
Lack of clarity and vision
Prioritisation
Cultural and societal influences
So ready to make a change and take control today?
Lets start harnessing that inner creativity and resourcefulness, applying it to your own journey in this lifetime and dig deep into finding out what it is you want, need, and can create!
Positive psychology, with its focus on strengths, resilience, and well-being, offers valuable insights into the process of building a flourishing life. At its core is the belief that individuals possess innate capacities for growth, creativity, and happiness, which can be cultivated and nurtured through intentional practices and mindset shifts.
Let's get started: I invite you to do this in a space without any outside influence so you can take the time to explore you! Get the paints out and then begin.
If you painted your life after all your dreams had come true what would it look like, take the reality out of it, money has no input! What would your life look like, what would you look like?
Once you have your picture of your hopes and dreams start looking for the patterns lets take this one step further and explore what are the base strengths, habits and actions within those hopes and dreams.
For example one of mine is to live in the countryside: some of the underlying wants/needs in this are: a place of peace, room to grow, a comfortable and cosy space and that dream community feel!
When I look underneath my picture these are real things that I can create within my current day. I can adjust that lifestyle and bring the underlying dream into my reality!
By taking intentional actions aligned with our vision, leveraging our strengths, and cultivating the resources and support systems necessary to bring our dreams to fruition. This may involve stepping outside our comfort zones, confronting fears and doubts, and embracing the inherent uncertainty of the creative process. Yet, with each step forward, we inch closer to the realization of our ideal life, embodying the spirit of resilience and adaptability championed by positive psychology and coaching psychology.

Along the way, it's essential to cultivate a mindset of curiosity, openness, and self-compassion—a willingness to learn from setbacks, celebrate successes, and course-correct as needed. Just as master builders refine their craft through trial and error, so too must we approach the construction of our lives with a spirit of experimentation and growth.
Ultimately, the journey of building the life we want is not merely about achieving external markers of success or attaining material wealth. It's about creating a life that aligns with our values, fulfills our deepest desires, and resonates with our authentic selves—a life imbued with meaning, purpose, and joy.
In the words of psychologist Abraham Maslow, "What a man can be, he must be."
