Anxiety coping strategy that doesnt involve counselling or cbt

When it all gets too much and your feeling anxious overwhelmed, the temptation is to hide away under the duvet covers and stay there (or at least thats my reaction) but as ive been training and learning about art therapy, i came across the idea of art journalling – has anyone every tried this?

 

Its about relaxation and instead of writing how you feel, you create something from nothing.

Obv i had to give it a go. The result:

It was harder than i thought, as i found it hard to be random with my placements, rather than uniform and controlled but I felt relaxed at the end (despite having an emotional evening prior to starting) and slept really well. 

 

I did learn, that i lack the skill of being uncontrolled and spontaneous, so I’m going to continue adding to my book and see if it opens up different facets of my personality.

 

Id love to see /hear from anyone who also does art journalling.
