A brief overview of inner child healing and it's incredible benefits!

I’m sure you’ve heard of the term “Inner Child Healing”, but do you know what it means??

Inner Child Healing is based on the idea that our earliest experiences in life have shaped our current beliefs and behaviors. This, of course, can be positive or negative.

So traumatic or adverse experiences can lead to unhelpful beliefs about ourselves, others or the world and in turn influence our behavior.

By connecting with your inner child, you can gain insight into how past experiences influence your present thoughts and actions, and from there, release yourself from the beliefs that hold you back!

Inner Child Healing has some incredible benefits including: improved relationships, stress reduction, better mental and physical health, the ability to be more authentic, build resilience, develop effective coping mechanisms AND feel more empowered in your life.

Before I give you a super simple exercise to reconnect with your inner child, here is a checklist of

6 Signs Your Inner Child May Need Healing:

  • You are very critical of yourself and have low self-esteem
  • You have difficult relationships with your family members
  • You have unhealthy coping mechanisms (alcohol, drugs, dissociating through social media, being super busy all the time etc.)
  • Self-sabotaging behaviors
  • Relationship issues ie. constantly finding yourself in unhealthy relationships
  • Mental/physical/emotional symptoms such as depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, migraines

So you’re probably wondering how you can learn to reconnect with your inner child, right?!

A simple exercise I absolutely love is Mirror Work.

Find a photo of yourself as a child and attach it to your bathroom mirror.

Everytime you see this photo, remind yourself that he/she is who you are talking about (everytime you speak negatively about yourself) and he/she is who you are living for!

How can you honor your inner child?

How can you live in a way that allows them to be their authentic self?

Practice showing them compassion, letting them know they are safe and loved.
