From Muay Thai Fighter to Career Focused: Changing Mindsets for Succes

One woman transitioned from a passionate Muay Thai fighter to concentrating on building a successful career, embracing challenges, and inspiring others along the way.

For 18 years, I dedicated my life to the art of Muay Thai, a combat sport known for its intense punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. From competing in the ring to training vigorously, I lived and breathed the sport. However, as time passed, I realized that my mindset needed a change. In this blog, I'll share my journey from being a Muay Thai fighter to focusing on building a successful career, embracing challenges, and inspiring others to persevere.

Embracing Challenges in the Ring

A Novice's Start

My journey in Muay Thai began as a raw novice, and within my first year, I found myself competing against some of the best female fighters in Europe and the world at my weight class. Challenges never intimidated me; I viewed them as opportunities to grow. I experienced both victory and defeat in the ring, but even in losses, I pushed myself to go the distance.

Dedication and Sacrifice

My training regimen was intense, with six sessions a week of Muay Thai, accompanied by additional workouts such as running and strength conditioning. I even spent extended periods in Thailand, immersing myself in training twice a day. Sacrifices were inevitable; I missed out on social nights and meals to align with my strict training schedule.

Overcoming Doubts and Critics

Throughout my Muay Thai journey, I faced discouraging comments that knocked me down harder than any opponent in the ring. The nagging question, "What's the point if you're going to lose?" haunted me at times. However, I realized that competing against stronger opponents allowed me to grow and develop as a fighter.

Transitioning Mindset: From Fighter to Career-Oriented

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone

One thing I never feared was stepping out of my comfort zone. I embraced challenges and acknowledged that failure was a possibility, albeit one I hoped to avoid. Retiring from Muay Thai, I decided to channel this mindset into building a successful career.

Learning from Mistakes

I understand that making mistakes is an essential part of any journey. Inspired by individuals like Kiki/Kirsty Smith, who overcame numerous failures before achieving success, I'm determined to learn from my missteps and persist.

The Path to Self-Employment

My transition from a full-time Muay Thai fighter to focusing on my career took time. While pursuing my passion, I consistently attended college courses and worked in a job I disliked until I finally left it a year ago. Now, I've been self-employed for six months.

Advice for Aspiring Career Changers

If you find yourself stuck in a job you dislike but can't leave just yet, here's my advice:

  1. Time Management: Dedicate even a small portion of your time, like an evening a week, to work towards your career goals.

  2. Persistence: Keep pushing forward and don't give up. Remember that even the most successful people face setbacks and failures.

  3. Hobbies as a Path: Sometimes, your hobbies can lead to a fulfilling career. Just like Muay Thai led me to become a personal trainer, your passion could open new career doors.
