Why diets don’t work…

Diets don’t work… because (it’s not what you think)

I'm Carly. I coach busy women around how to ditch diets, gain confidence, lose weight for good and be more happy, productive and free.

I myself dieted for 20 plus years. My weight flucated during that time. I was low in mood and not fulfilling my potential because I was so hyper focused on food.

I was miserable, I was gaining weight and I had to break free of the cycle.

I educated myself, I worked on the core beliefs that led me to have a poor relationship with food and I practised changing my thoughts and approach to weight loss, fitness and wellbeing.

As a result I've maintained my weight loss for 10 years despite mental challenges, 2 babies in 2 years and all of the stresses of business!

So why can't we lose weight... for GOOD?

Most of us know what to do... we know that in order to lose weight we need to move more, exercise, drink water, limit alcohol and repeat so why can't we do it?

Why do we start out with good intentions and slip and as a result feel more negative with every failed attempt and actually gain weight rather than lose it long term?

MINDSET

Dieting suggests deprivation. It connotes us doing something painful short term that we need to push through to get to an end goal. The issue is that:

1. There is no end goal. Once we lose weight we have to understand how to keep it off

2. Depriving yourself isn't a long term solution, therefore you will fail

3. Weight maintenance requires skills, habits and a change of thoughts and behaviours. Diets don't typically teach us those

The thing I've learned that I instill in my clients is that weight loss is not an emergency and shouldn't be treated as such.

All you've done is eat more food than you've burned and that could be for lots of different reasons.

Shaming yourself in to losing weight quickly using unsustainable methods won't get long term results.

Having a plan that includes understanding how to be balanced, how to work around low mood, being busy, overwhelm, anxiety, illness, kids, life and being consistent, resilient when things don't go to plan is how you will do the work to lose weight long term and keep it off.

It took me many years of yo-yo dieting which played havoc with my mental and physical health to understand that my focus was on the wrong things and that I was failing because my plan was wrong, not being I am a failure.

I now have way more freedom and time to focus on my kids and business (and me!) because I'm more positive and I'm not thinking about food and my weight 24:7. I've grown in confidence and have been more successful, productive and happy!

You have the power too. It's all in your mindset. Your thoughts, beliefs and how they impact your approach.
