Why Stories Sell – And Why They Can Lead You Off Track

When you have stories to tell you bring power to the stage. But when your stories are mastering your speech rather than you mastering your stories, it's time to gain control. In this article I share why stories are the magic and what to do when they take over.

Why Stories Sell – But Also Why They Can Lead You Off Track

You know that feeling when someone starts telling a story, and you’re hanging on every word… and then suddenly, you’re wondering, “Wait, what was the point of this again?”

We’ve all been there. And let’s be honest – we’ve all been that person too.

The thing is, stories are magic. They’re how we connect, how we remember things, and how we make sense of the world. There’s a reason why you’ll still recall your someone’s story about how they landed their biggest client by sheer chance during a chance meeting at a coffee shop, but you’ve already forgotten the last 10 PowerPoint slides you sat through.

Stories Sell – Because People Buy Connection

When you’re talking about your business – whether you’re on stage, at a networking event, or even just having a chat at a networking event or in a coworking space – stories matter. They’re how you turn what you do into something people feel. And people buy based on feelings.

But here’s the catch:

Stories Can Also Take You Down the Garden Path

You know how it goes… you start with a cracking anecdote that really ties into your message, but then suddenly you remember that hilarious thing that happened last summer, and you’re off. By the time you’ve circled back, everyone’s smiling politely, but you know they’ve started mentally tuning out because your point got lost.

That’s why I encourage you to tell stories, and to learn to tell them well. But it’s also critical that you know how to tell them in a way that keeps you on track.

Cutting the Waffle Doesn’t Mean Losing the Magic

I’m not here to tell you to stop telling stories or to avoid being in the moment. I want you to tell your stories in a way that makes people sit up, lean in, and say, “Tell me more.” I want your stories to work for you, not against you.

That’s why I created my masterclass, Cut the Waffle. Own the Stage.

It’s for people who know they have a tendency to ramble, over-explain, or get a bit… carried away. If you’re worried you waffle – and it’s getting in the way of your impact – this is for you.

Together, we’ll work on how to:
cool Manage your stories to boost your message (not drown it).
coolAnd Why They Can Lead You Off Track Keep your audience engaged and with you.
cool Leave them with a clear, memorable takeaway that makes them want to connect with you.

Because when you can balance the magic of storytelling with a clear, structured message… that’s when the real magic happens.

If that sounds like something you need, come along to Cut the Waffle. Own the Stage. Let’s trim the excess, tighten up your delivery, and make sure your stories do the job they’re meant to: selling your message and connecting you with the people who need what you offer.

It’s time to stop getting lost in the weeds – and start owning the stage.
