Choosing non-toxic products for self-care

The products we use for our beauty and personal care routines can also contain harmful toxins. By choosing non-toxic alternatives, we can take care of our bodies and minimise our exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. Here are some tips for selecting non-toxic beauty and personal care products:

  1. Avoid harmful ingredients: Familiarise yourself with common harmful ingredients found in beauty and personal care products. Some examples include parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. Opt for products that are free from these toxic substances.I have a 20min on-demand workshop here for €1 today that digs deeper into the basics of skincare and choosing ingredients. https://thelovelifecommunity.mvt.so/skincare-101
  2. Look for certifications: When choosing beauty and personal care products, look for certifications such as USDA Organic, COSMOS Organic, and EWG Verified, PETA, Non GMO Project, Cruelty Free, Vegan Certified… it doesn’t have to be all of these but these are ones more easily spotted and more transparency. These certifications ensure that the products meet strict standards for organic and natural ingredients. I would also choose BCorp Certified brands too. Check www.bcorp.net
  3. Make your own products: Consider making your own beauty and personal care products using natural ingredients. This allows you to have full control over the ingredients used and ensures that you are using non-toxic alternatives, though you won’t be guaranteed the efficacy of the products you will know what you have used.
  4. Support ethical and sustainable brands: Look for brands that prioritise ethical sourcing, sustainable packaging, and environmentally friendly practices. By supporting these brands, you contribute to a more sustainable and responsible beauty industry. Check out the B Beauty Movement within BCorp businesses, the brand I partner with and use is a founding member of B Beauty. https://www.bcorpbeauty.org/

Remember, your skin is your largest organ, and what you put on it can be absorbed into your body. Choose non-toxic alternatives that nourish and protect your skin, while also minimising your impact on the environment.
