Wax Burners

How to easily clean your wax burner.

One of the biggest issues that many we face when using wax melts is left over wax residue in their burner.

I'm terrible for just changing the burner rather than cleaning it out. It sometimes feels like such a hassle but then, as I have lots of burners to hand, im fortunate enough to be able to do this.

There are many ways in which it can be cleaned. These will vary depending upon whether you ask for advice, still have the box to read the instructions, maybe you've watched someone else cleaning theirs or you decide to just give it a wash.

There are drawbacks from scrapping out solid wax; using hot water to clean it or just adding in a new melt.

  1. You can damage your burner as scrapping the wax can put hairline cracks in the well of the burner which makes it dangerous to continue using.
  2. Whilst this also works, it can clog up your drains when the the wax has cooled and hardened.
  3. Each melt will have different contents and the oils used to make individual melts will have different flashpoints. You should not mix different melts as you don't know if they will be compatible with each other or whether they will 'stink'. Each melt should come with a CLP and we (wax melt makers) cannot mix different scented melts in the same bag or it invalidates the CLP.

Moving onto how you can preserve the life of your burner and pop in a new melt with ease. It's quite simple and not messy at all.

What you will need:

  • Your burner
  • Tealight
  • Some cotton wool balls

What you need to do:

  1. Light a tea light as though you are going to burn your melt.
  2. Once it has started to melt the wax in the well, blow out the tealight and carefully remove it from your burner.
  3. Using a piece of cotton wool, start to soak up the melted wax. Repeat until all the wax has been removed.
  4. Once you're sure that there is no wax residue on the well of your burner, wash carefully with hot soapy water and leave to drip dry.
  5. Once dried, simply pop a new wax melt into the well of your burner and light a tealight, then sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful aroma of your new melt.

Hope you find this useful,

Take care,

Thank you for this informative blog, I too am terrible for not cleaning out properly! Using the cotton wool will help as I know that popping it down the drain would end in disaster!!
