It's ok to not be ok... but what if you can't rest?

Never been ill for this long before, when will it end? (I struggle to rest, I'm a working mum...)

It hit me at the end of January, and for someone who gained the nickname "Colourful Powerhouse" last year, this bug has knocked me back a bit.
I always fight through everything. Time of month, illness, unless my body thinks it's dying I keep going.
This ultimately leads to burnout and then I'm forced to slow down.

I thought it was burnout that hit me on 27th January, but as it came to two weeks with an increasingly annoying cough, and a weak voice, a few friends asked me "oh no, it's not the 100 day cough is it?!!" I guess I'll find out... we're on day 17 now...

But for a self employed working mum, taking a rest isn't an option. I can't afford not to work, and when I'm not working I'm mum.

I've felt unable to record podcasts for a week, but managed to record two guest sessions last week without coughing in the middle of it. I probably sound bunged up though, but I got my words out, and I remembered that the first Christmas of my podcast I had to record January's episode with a cold, and I managed.

This week is half term, which means the kid is at home, except he isn't!
I've been given a day off everything today, so I took myself on a long walk in the sunshine, attended a yoga class, had a warm bowl of Curried Cauliflower soup, and a polenta cake with my favourite "Pea Milk" Hot Chocolate.
I love Green Olive in Menai Bridge, they always deliver smile

I feel much better after having some true time to myself, without having to make sure the kid is happy and not trashing whatever room he's in!
Between holiday club and both sets of grandparents, plus a friend with a similar aged kid, we've got the childcare covered so I'm not on my own (my husband works fulltime)

Half term generally means no piano lessons, so I have the time to take for some SELF CARE!
I'm a mental health advocate whose Facebook group is all about self care, and my business revolves around self care. Yet even I sometimes forget what self care truly is for myself.

My ultimate self care is taking myself on a walk in the sunshine, taking in the views, enjoying wholesome food, with music (or friends), so this week I have a number of walks planned in different areas. A week of adventures is my kind of self care. The way to fill my cup. I'm not a person who can physically "do nothing" and that's ok too cool

You do you!
