Oh my goodness. I used to totally, I roll at the thought of self-care. I mean as a busy mom of six, the thought of putting on face masks when I'd eventually got my children's sleep was not my idea of a good time. I don't know about you. I could think of so many other things including watching Netflix and yeah, that would constitute as my idea of self-care.

So let's dig into this. Right. We are told by society that we should be taking care of ourselves. We should be watching what we need and we should be doing all of the things. I don't know about you, but the idea of having my nails done, although I do have them done on a regular basis, drives me nuts. And it is not my idea of self-care. It is my idea of upkeep. Hello. Have you started having your nails done? Those things are hard to keep on top of.

So today we're going to have a little bit of a conversation about self-care and what that actually means. Now for me, self-care is all about listening to what it is that we actually want. Listening to what it is that actually means something to us. Self-care actually just means taking time for yourself, which isn't a priority often when we are busy moms in business. We're running around growing our businesses. We're running around making sure everybody else is fed. We forget to feed ourselves, get to 3pm and realize that we haven't eaten for the entire day. Self-care really could be just making sure that we have something for breakfast. Even if it is just an apple or a bowl of cereals, I'm not going to sit here and claim to be a nutritionist. Hello, curvy body. But what I am going to tell you is, is self-care really is slowing down in order to be able to live the life that we want to live.

So what does self-care look like to you? Well, self-care to me looks like going for a walk on the beach with my kids. Self-care looks like to me being asked to have a shower in peace. Self-care looks like stopping and actually thinking about what I want as a woman, what I want as a human. What I want as an individual out of my life. That's what self-care means to me. Self-care really is stopping and allowing yourself to breathe. And if allowing yourself to breathe means having your pet toenails painted or self-care looks like, you know, being able to have a cup of tea and peace, then we really need to start paying attention to those things.

Now I know you're already stretched. I can already hear your eyes rolling and yes, I can hear eyes roll. I can, I can visualize all of you sat here thinking, but it's okay for you, you, Leona, but it's okay for you. Trust me. I'm telling you it's work. But what I realized is, is yes, sometimes getting up 15 minutes before my kids or staying up 15 minutes after my kids have gone to sleep or making sure that I block out my time in my diary so that I can effectively look after me. Wow. Feels a bit selfish, right? But I promise you it's not. You have to put yourself first. Just sometimes. Now I'm not going to sit here and let you on, you know, make sure your face mask is on first as we do on an airplane and all that jazz. But what I am going to tell you is this. If you're not looking after yourself, everybody else around you, including you will suffer.

So I'm encouraging you today to make that time. I'm encouraging you today to look at your diary and make sure you're putting in something for you, whether that be a warm cup of tea or a toenail painting meeting or whatever it is, right? Whatever it looks like. But it's important that you do something for you today. I just want you to close your eyes. I just want you to connect with yourself for a minute. And this is the last time you close your eyes and just allow yourself to be. Just allow yourself to breathe. Just allow yourself to empty your mind and for it to be whatever it is. Take that time now because you are important. You are the one driving the ship. You are the one building a life that you love. You deserve this. I know you want that. And it's your time. So I encourage you today to do something for you and I encourage you today to prioritize you and encourage you to plan forward that time for you. Next week. I love you guys. Until next time.
