In the heart of our town, amidst the vibrant tapestry of culture and community, a story of unity and resilience unfolds. It began with a Caribbean takeaway and restaurant owned by Simone, SS Caribbean Cafe, a place where flavours danced and friendships bloomed. As the aroma of spices filled the air, so did the sound of laughter and the clack of dominoes against tables.

The Legacy of Lawrence Walker at Colchester's Art Gallery and Community Centre
But life, with its twists and turns, brought both joy and sorrow. The passing of our beloved community leader, Lawrence Walker, left a void that echoed through our streets. Yet, from the depths of grief emerged a beacon of hope - the Lawrence Walker Art Gallery and Community Centre was born, donated to the community by the Colchester Arts Council, a testament to his legacy and our shared commitment to honour him and his work.

Rosa Lea's Paint Studio and the Vibrant Caribbean Pop-Up Group creating unity
In the midst of this transformation, Rosa Lea's Paint Studio stood as a pillar of creativity and connection, was asked to provide arts sessions for the Caribbean pop-up group on a Tuesday. Marie (aka Rosa Lea), Simone, Kenesha, Alison, and the community embraced this opportunity with open hearts. What started as a humble gathering blossomed into a vibrant hub of culture, with Simone and her Caribbean food, traditional games, music, and Rosa's art workshops weaving together the fabric of our community.

Fostering Community: The Birth of Colchester Caribbean Group CIC
With each stroke of the brush and each move of the domino piece, and every tasty dish, bonds grew stronger, and visions took shape. As the weeks turned into months, our community has flourished, welcoming new faces and embracing diversity. And so, fueled by passion and driven by purpose, Marie, Simone,Kenesha and Alison embarked on a new journey.
In December, amidst whispers of dreams and aspirations, we decided to formalise our commitment by founding the Colchester Caribbean Group CIC.
With this step, we sought to pave the way for even greater impact, to nurture and support initiatives that would uplift and empower our community.

Embracing Unity and Diversity
Today, as we stand together, we celebrate not only the birth of a CIC but the spirit of resilience, unity, and hope that courses through our veins.
In the vibrant tapestry of our town, the Colchester Caribbean Group CIC stands as a testament to the power of community - a beacon of light guiding us towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
