Now in my 50s, I can confidently say that fitness and a consistent morning routine have been my anchors. They’ve not only helped me maintain physical health but have also been vital for my mental and emotional well-being. This relationship with fitness started in my teenage years, when I faced an eating disorder. I realized early on that to navigate life in a healthy way, I needed to have a multifaceted approach that involved staying active, fueling my body with healthy choices, and working on my mindset every day.

My Journey with Fitness: Healing and Transformation

As a teenager, I struggled with an eating disorder that left me feeling disconnected from my body. It wasn’t an easy time, but through the support of my parents and others and my own determination, I came to understand that true health wasn’t about restricting myself—it was about nurturing my body, mind, and spirit. This was when I began to embrace fitness as a form of healing.

I understood that to move forward healthfully in life, I needed to take care of myself in a holistic way. Fitness became a way for me to reconnect with my body, but it wasn’t just about the physical part. It was about learning how to care for myself by staying active, putting nutritious foods into my body, and working on a positive mindset daily. Exercise became an outlet, a way to release stress and celebrate what my body could do. I found that the more I focused on fitness as part of a well-rounded approach to health, the stronger I felt both inside and out.

Staying Sane Through the Tough Times

Over the years, life has thrown its fair share of challenges my way. From personal struggles to outside stressors, I’ve learned that life can be unpredictable. But throughout it all, my commitment to fitness and my morning routine has kept me grounded. They’ve become my way of maintaining a sense of normalcy and control when things feel chaotic.

When I faced particularly tough times, such as moments of anxiety or grief, exercise was my therapy. I wake up early, read some passages, journal, and work out and make time for myself before the demands of the day begin. Fitness isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling good and embracing life fully, something I appreciate more and more with each passing year.

My morning routine has been a cornerstone of my well-being for years, and as I’ve entered my 50s, its importance has only grown. There’s something powerful about starting the day with intention. Mornings are my quiet time, my chance to focus on myself before the world demands my attention. It’s a time to breathe, move, and set the tone for the rest of the day.
